In Australia, the two first Chess issues were on London Records (HL 1128 and 1138 - both 1957), next on Columbia Records (see above) and then Philips Records. The Chess label emerged in Australia in 1962. 
The label design is unique to Australia and was an erratic label when it came to releasing US Chess material. The label went dormant around 1966 only to re-emerge briefly in the late 1960. The label disappeared soon after following the demise of the Chess label in the US.
Chess in Oz was considered hard core R&B and only appealed to a certain kind of record buyer at the time.
