| Founded
in 1951 in Gallatin Texas by Randolph Wood, then moved to Hollywood to
become a major label. Dot in the US
was also a distributor of small independent labels some of which also found
their way to Australia.
In Australia Dot material was released on London Records and in 1962, then the London-Dot label. issued, in In 1964, Festival obtained the rights to Dot and started issuing records on the Dot label with its black label and the Dot logo in red there were occasionally all white label black print and black label blue logo. 1968 Dot was taken over by Gulf + Western (Paramount) with a slight label change to reflect this. Another change came in 1970, when Dot was acquired by Famous Music. The label changed to a yellow, orange & pink spiral label similar to the US London label. Festival retained the rights throughout these changes until the label was taken over by the US ABC group. The labels became mainly yellow and became ABC-DOT and were issued in Australia by RCA Records. Dot was eventually swallowed up into the MCA conglomerate. |
