Elektra Records was formed in 1950 by Jac Holzman and Paul Rickholt. The
usual spelling of the heroine Electra was changed, with Holzman famously
explaining, “I gave her the ‘K’ that I lacked.” During the Fifties and
early Sixties the label concentrated on folk music recordings. The Australian
label first appeared in 1970.
Prior releases were issued on the Astor label. |

If the record had different sides to the US issue, they were given a special number for the OZ. For this, the 46000 and 90000 series were used. US did not start the 46000 series until 1978. 45 Discography for Elektra/Asylum Records from Global Dog Productions |
