US Geffen Records was started in 1980 by record business entrepreneur David Geffen (who’s first major dealings were to get Laura Nyro signed to Columbia Records and start the Asylum Label in 1971). After getting fired as vice-president of Warner Brothers Pictures (1975-78), he was given the option to start a new label. Geffen signed three big names right out of the box, Donna Summer, Elton John, and incredibly John & Yoko. |
