| Gum
Leaf - the label of Emusic Pty Ltd, the publishing company owned and operated
by Australian bush balladeer John Williamson. Williamson has been
around since 1970 with previous records on Fable & Festival. Gumleaf
was set up as a vehicle exclusively for his own music and has released
quite a number of albums and singles on this label, all Australian bush
ballads, songs and stories and all in the broad Aussie accent (his natural
voice). Williamson flatly refuses to sing with a refined or an American
Twang. Quote: “It's Australian or nothing”. He is still performing mainly
in remote outback and country towns, rarely in the big cities (similar
to the late Slim Dusty, of whom he admired).
