Monument Records was founded in 1958 by Fred Foster and Bob Moore in the
Nashville suburb of Hendersonville, Tennessee. It was the signing of the
former Sun Records singer, Roy Orbison, that brought phenomenal success,
starting with the 1960 hit, "Only the Lonely."
In Australia, the US 400 series was issued on London Records. The first was HL 1476 in January 1959. The first of the US 800 series was HL 2036 in 1962, the last HL 2264 in 1966. |
