The
Australian PYE label was one of the main players during the early 60’s.
It was the off-shoot of the English label but it also recorded some local
items. They also distributed Mercury,
Wing
& Reprise. The records were pressed by Astor
and distributed independently. PYE even had their own record shop in Melbourne
for a short time, also an outlet for PYE electrical appliances.
In
1963 the Australian PYE label was swallowed up into the Astor company and
all subsequent releases were on the Astor
label (AP series). |
