US
Red Bird Records was started by American pop music songwriters Jerry Leiber
and Mike Stoller in 1964. Female-led acts accounted for more than 90% of
the label's charting records. In
Melbourne most of the Red Bird records ended up in department store bargain
bins along with the Twin Hits and Colpix records selling cheaply. You had
to rummage through it as the bin was deep and they were just “thrown” in.
A few other labels suffered the same fate whenever Astor decided to clear
it’s warehouse. They off loaded boxes of excess records to the stores to
be gotten rid of.
