The
Regal Zonophone label had been in Australia almost since the first days
of records with the amalgamation of the Regal and Zonophone record companies
back in the early days. Later taken over by Columbia Graphophone and ultimately
EMI. The Regal Zonophone label is very well known to Australian record
collectors as back in the 78 days nearly every “other” 78 was an RZ in
its distinctive bright red label and green Regal banner. It was the main
“hillbilly” label in fact at the time it was Columbia’s sister label releasing
literally millions of 78s.
The
45s however is a different story. RZ issued no 45s until 1973 and not too
many after that.
The
45 label was more successful in the UK. |
