Established
in Melbourne in 1969 by then popular Melbourne radio DJ and Kommotion TV
show host Ken Sparkes
and John MacDonald
then owner of a very influential record shop (The Disc Shop) in Melbourne.
Biggest act on the label was Melbourne act “Daddy Cool”. Sparkes quickly
sold his share to the label's first recording artist Robbie Porter. Porter
had a very succesful recording career as Rob EG. in the early-mid '60's
and had recently returned from several years in the U.S. After Sparmac
folded, he went on to establish Wizard
Records who re-issued the Sparmac albums.
MacDonald later founded Avenue Records. |
