US
Liberty Records, Inc. was formed in 1955 in LA by Si Waronker, Alvin Bennett
and Theodore Keep. Over the years Liberty acquired, licensed and distributed
several other US independent labels including Blue Note, Minit, Blue Thumb
Records and Aladdin before it too was bought in 1968 by Transamerica Corporation
- the parent company of United Artists Records. The union of Liberty and
UA operated as a 'paired' entity in various markets as Liberty/UA until
Liberty was folded into United Artists in 1971. UA was taken over by EMI
in 1979 and the Liberty brand was revived. It traded as Liberty/United
Inc. for a short time. |
