Dootone Records was formed in 1951 by Walter (Dootsie) Williams in Los Angeles, California.
To avoid a lawsuit from Duo-Tone Records, the label name was changed to Dooto in January 1957.
 In the mid 1960s, when the dispute with Duo-Tone Records was finally resolved and forgotten, Dooto reissued many of its earlier singles on a red version of the black label with "DOOTONE" as the label name once again. 
The company folded in 1975.
