With
the money of Don Barbeau and Lou Torres, Jim Barkley founded IKON Enterprises
in 1962/1963 (no exact date is known). Recording engineers and technicians:
Bob Lindfeldt, John Nelson and Lloyd Frankini.
They
hired well-known bandleader and DJ Bill Race as sales manager and he
was
with the company for about a year and formed his own recording facility
in 1965. In the beginning of 1964 (or at the end of 1963) they started
the IKON label. In early 1966 Eirik Wangberg from Norway joining the staff
as a recording engineer. In the fall of 1966 IKON closed the doors and
while Jim Barkley disappeared he left back more than a handful of unpaid
people.
Several
Ikon singles are coveted items within the rarified echelons of garage-collectordom:
Those by Madd, Inc, the Knightsmen, Prophets, Shondells and others. The
Ikon singles fetch big bucks on the very few occasions they are offered
for sale.
