I.R.S.
Records was started in 1979 by Miles Copeland (older brother of Police
drummer Stuart), Carl Grasso and Jay Boberg. It's impressive artist
roster included The Buzzcocks, The Go-Go's (and later Belinda Carlisle),
R.E.M., Fine Young Cannibals, Timbuk 3, General Public and The Alarm.
The
label was distributed by A&M from 1979 through 1985.
Distribution
switched to MCA in 1985, then to EMI in 1990. The label closed it's doors
in 1996.
CD's
are today still reissued by A&M and MCA using the old logos. |
