Pacific
Jazz Records was established by Richard Bock and Roy Harte in Los Angeles
in 1952. A subsidiary, World-Pacific
Records, was launched in 1958. The labels were sold to Liberty
Records in 1965.
In 1968, Liberty was bought for $38 million by Transamerica Corporation (an insurance company) and combined with their other label United Artists Records. Transamerica did not have a clue about running a record company. In 1969, Transamerica renamed Pacific Jazz Records to World Pacific Jazz Records. |
